Walt Disney World has begun taking bookings for the new Art of Animation Resort, which is set to open to guests during 2012.

The new resort is scheduled to open in early summer, and will feature rooms themed around some of Disney's most popular animated movies. The 10 wings of rooms will be divided into 4 distinct sections, each themed around a specific movie: The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Finding Nemo and Cars.

The new "Value" resort will be located adjacent to Disney's Pop Century Resort, with standard room rates starting at $94 per night. Family suites (which can sleep up to 6 people) are available from $248 per night.

Disney's Art of Animation Resort will re-use unfinished buildings that were originally earmarked for a second phase of construction of the Pop Century Resort, which was subsequently abandoned during the 2001 recession. Each of the four themed sections of the 65-acre plot will feature a central courtyard dominated by an icon from the movie it is based on.

In addition to being able to book at the Art of Animation Resort, visitors to Walt Disney World can also now book the new Royal Guest Rooms at Disney's Port Orleans Resort. These are designed to enable guests to live like Disney princes and princesses, with rooms featuring ornate decorations and a range of special effects. Rates for the rooms start at $189 per night.

Bookings for all of Walt Disney World's resort hotels can be made via the Walt Disney World website, or by calling 407-W-DISNEY (407-934-7639) .
