Work has begun to install the track for Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid, the new dark ride which is under construction at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom.

The Disney Parks Blog reports that the company's Imagineers have started to lay the track for the ride's OmniMover system, which will be similar to that used in the park's Haunted Mansion ride.

Located in the expanded Fantasyland of the Magic Kingdom, the attraction will be almost identical to The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure, which is due to open at Disney California Adventure on June 3, 2011.

As in the Haunted Mansion, the Little Mermaid attraction's vehicles will rotate to face the different scenes presented during the ride's circuit. These will tell the story of Disney's classic animated movie, The Little Mermaid. The ride will feature advanced animatronic recreations of key characters from the film, including Sebastian, Scuttle, Ursula and Ariel herself.

Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid is one of the headline attractions in the Fantasyland expansion, which is due to open in phases starting in late 2012. The updated area will also feature the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, a brand new rollercoaster based on the Snow White movie.
