The highly-anticipated Star Tours: The Adventures Continue attraction has officially opened to the public at Disney's Hollywood Studios, ending years of anticipation for fans.

Movie director George Lucas and Disney CEO Bob Iger were on hand to open the updated simulator ride, which is based on Lucas' Star Wars series. The ride uses a modified version of the original Star Tours attraction's simulator system, which was in place for over two decades at both Disneyland's Hollywood Studios and California's Disneyland.

Inside the Magic was on hand to capture the opening ceremony, which featured Lucas and Iger playing the roles of Jedi Knights:

Footage of the ride itself has also emerged, along with its newly-revamped queue area. Orlando Attractions Magazine's walkthrough video offers an extensive look at both the queue and the ride.

Meanwhile, the Disney Parks Blog has released a video tour of the interior of the attraction hosted by Ashley Eckstein, star of the Clone Wars animated movies.

Star Tours: The Adventures Continue features 54 different possible experiences, meaning that guests will take a different "journey" almost every time they ride it. Different combinations of storylines are generated at random, helping to keep riders guessing what will happen next.

Star Tours closed at Disneyland on July 27, with Disney's Hollywood Studios' version closing on September 8 (the original version continues to operate at Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris). Disneyland's version of its replacement is due to open on June 3, 2011.
