Merlin Entertainments Group has officially confirmed that the new LEGOLAND Florida theme park will officially open its doors on Saturday, October 15, 2011.
The company has released the new date to enable families to plan visits in advance, an important factor given that many visitors are likely to come from outside of the state. Located on a 150-acre site in Winter Haven, LEGOLAND Florida will feature more than 50 rides, shows and attractions. The park has released official preview video footage alongside the announcement, which is embedded below:
LEGOLAND Florida sales manager Todd Andrus explained the park's decision to reveal the opening date months in advance: "I’d estimate 80 percent of the inquiries we’ve received have been about our opening date. Guests are all but begging to know the date, so they can book their flights and accommodations, and purchase admission tickets."
In addition to revealing the date, LEGOLAND Florida has also launched its official online reservation system. This enables guests to book tickets, accommodation, airlines and rental cars directly through the park's website in advance of their visit. The "Bed & Brick" program will see the park officially endorse 13 preferred hotels in Central Florida that can be booked via the website.
The new park will be located on the site of Cypress Gardens, which was purchased by Merlin Entertainments Group for $22.3 million in January 2010. Several areas from the Cypress Gardens park will become part of LEGOLAND Florida, although all will be extensively rethemed and updated to suit the park's target audience of families with 2-12 year-old children.
