The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure scene

A new time-lapse video has been released showing construction of The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure, ahead of its opening on June 3.

The video, posted to the Disney Parks Blog and embedded below, shows progress on building the external facade of the new dark ride. Elements of the former Palace of Fine Arts building, which housed the closed Golden Dreams attraction, have been incorporated into the design. The centerpiece will be a dramatic arch featuring relief carvings of Ariel's father King Triton and other mermaids.

The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure will utilize an OmniMover ride system similar to that seen in Disneyland's Haunted Mansion, with the clamshell-style vehicles having arrived in March. As in the Haunted Mansion, the vehicles will rotate to face the different scenes presented during the ride's circuit. These will tell the story of Disney's classic animated movie, The Little Mermaid.

Disney California Adventure's new attraction will share a grand opening date with Star Tours: The Adventures Continue at neighboring Disneyland. A near-identical version of the attraction is due to open as part of an expanded Fantasyland at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom in 2012, under the name Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid.
