Disney has confirmed that the updated Goofy's Sky School rollercoaster will reopen at Disney California Adventure on June 3, 2011.
Goofy's Sky School is an rethemed version of the Mulholland Madness coaster, which closed on October 12, 2010. It is set to share its opening date with new The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure dark ride at Disney California Adventure, as well as Star Tours: The Adventures Continue at Disneyland.
The coaster will receive a new theme based on the 1940 cartoon Goofy's Glider, which tells the story of Goofy attempting to teach pilots how to fly. Although the coaster's track will retain the same layout, the ride vehicles will be updated to fit the new theme. An official teaser video is embedded below:
The attraction is a classic wild mouse coaster, featuring sharp turns and sudden drops and reaching a top speed of 27 miles per hour. All of the existing theming from its days as Mulholland Madness will be removed for its return as Goofy's Sky School, with additions including billboards showing flying tips, "clouds" through which the track passes and updated ride vehicles featuring a small "winglet" on the nose.
Mulholland Madness had been in place since Disney California Adventure opened in 2001, and was named after the famous engineer William Mulholland. The ride's theme saw guests renting a car and tackling South California's freeway system, with the vehicles being designed to resemble real cars.
