Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast entrance

Universal Orlando has confirmed that Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast will close in summer 2011, making way for a new attraction based on "an amazing new concept".

Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast will initially close on April 1, but will return during the peak spring and summer seasons before its final closure on August 18. No indication has been given on the nature of its replacement at Universal Studios Florida, but it has been widely rumored that an attraction base on the Despicable Me animated movie is in the works.

Screamscape reported rumors of the potential closure of Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast several weeks ago, with Universal's licensing deal for use of the character set to end this year. A Despicable Me ride is claimed to be likely to take its place due to the planned release of a sequel to the movie in 2013.

While refusing to be drawn on the theme for the new attraction, Universal Orlando did reveal on its Facebook page that it will be "just one of many exciting things planned for the next couple of years". No other new attractions have yet been confirmed for either Universal Studios Florida or Islands of Adventure, although an expansion to the hugely-popular Wizarding World of Harry Potter has been rumored.

Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast opened in April 2003, replacing The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera. It re-used the original attraction's simulator system, which had been in place at Universal Studios Florida since the park first opened in 1990. The ride tells the story of Jimmy's attempts to recover his Mark IV rocket, which has been stolen by the evil Ooblar.

I believe that a Madagascar attraction would be the best replacement for Jimmy Neutron. This attraction would be the first of its kind in the U.S. and would also strengthen the partnership between Universal and DreamWorks. In addition, bringing the Madagascar attraction just like the one being constructed in Singapore makes sense since DreamWorks is coming out with a third movie to the series.
