Walt Disney World has announced the dates for 2011's Star Wars Weekends, which will be timed to coincide with the opening of Star Tours: The Adventures Continue.
The Star Wars Weekends will take place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from May 20 to June 12 at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Anthony Daniels, who voiced the iconic droid C-3PO in all six Star Wars movies, will be on hand to open the new Star Tours attraction on May 20. Ashley Eckstein, the voice of Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars: The Clone Wars will act as Celebrity Host for each of the four weekends.
As in previous years, the Star Wars Weekends will feature special parades, shows, autograph sessions with stars and sales of "one-of-a-kind" Star Wars memorabilia. In previous years, Star Wars Weekends entry has carried no extra charge over and above the usual Disney's Hollywood Studios admission fee. This is expected to remain the case for the 2011 events.
Star Tours: The Adventures Continue (often referred to as Star Tours 2) is the long-awaited sequel to the classic Star Tours attraction. It will feature an all-new plot, 3D special effects and a host of new characters, with Disney looking to exploit the enduring popularity of the Star Wars universe. The attraction is set to take riders on a spin through some of sci-fi's most famous locations, and will also open at Disneyland on a yet-to-be-confirmed date.
