Disney has released new video and artwork of The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure and Cars Land, which are due to open at California Adventure over the next two years.
The new glimpses of the highly-anticipated attractions were revealed as part of an update to the Blue Sky Cellar, a preview center at Disney California Adventure that showcases current projects being undertaken by the company's Imagineers. The latest additions to the center focus on the new rides that form part of the $1.1 billion series of upgrades to Disneyland's sister park, which are due for completion in 2012.
The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure is set to open by summer 2011, and will utilise an OmniMover ride system similar to that used in Disneyland's Haunted Mansion. Currently on display in the Blue Sky Cellar is an artist's rendering of an 86-foot long, hand-painted mural that will be on display in the loading area for the ride.
Building on a recent behind-the-scenes look at work on The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure, the Blue Sky Cellar is also showing video footage that depicts show scenes, set design and construction on the new E-Ticket attraction. Also revealed is the ride's running time - around six-and-a-half minutes.
The video, embedded below courtesy of Inside the Magic, also shows Disney's Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter going for a test ride on the Radiator Spring Racers attraction, which will be the headline ride in the Pixar-inspired Cars Land when it opens in 2012:
Another eye-catching update in the Blue Sky Cellar is the addition of an animated map of Disney California Adventure, which includes new and updated areas that have yet to open at the park. The map features 30 animations, plus one "hidden" effect:
