The Triceratops Discovery Trail attraction at Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure could return for the busy Spring Break period, according to a report.
Screamscape, which correctly predicted the reopening and subsequent closure of the attraction over the Christmas holidays, claims that the dinosaur-themed animatronic show will return for another brief run. Formerly known as Triceratops Encounter, Triceratops Discovery Trail returned in December having been shuttered since 2005. It subsequently closed again in early January.
Universal had made clear that return of Triceratops Discovery Trail was only temporary, while it tested the experience with guests. Its return also helped to provide additional capacity at Islands of Adventure over the Christmas period, when huge crowds descended on the park to visit the Wizarding of Harry Potter. It is likely to play a similar function over Spring Break.
Triceratops Discovery Trail, which is located in the Jurassic Park section of Islands of Adventure, originally opened with the park in 1999 but closed in 2005. However, it was left in place and was subsequently reopened under the new name, with the attraction itself being identical to its previous incarnation.
The attraction is a partial recreation of a scene from the Jurassic Park movie in which the lead characters encounter a sick triceratops. Guests are able to watch a "veterinary technician" perform exams on the triceratops, with advanced animatronics being used to create a sense of realism. A baby triceratops is also on display while guests wait to enter the attraction.
