Walt Disney World has released a new video that provides further details of its plans to convert the former Pleasure Island area into Hyperion Wharf.
The plans to update the nighttime entertainment district, which is located in the heart of the Downtown Disney area of Walt Disney World, were revealed last week. In the video (embedded below), Downtown Disney President Keith Bradford discusses the Hyperion Wharf makeover, while Imagineer Alex Wright describes how lighting will be used to convert the new district into an "electric wonderland".
Disney's confirmation of the Hyperion Wharf project hasn't stopped the rumor mill churning. Screamscape reports that the company is working on plans to install a small trolley system running the length of the Downtown Disney area. A similar system is being installed at Disney California Adventure as part of the park's $1.1 billion renovation.
The creation of Hyperion Wharf, a nostalgically-themed waterfront area, is due to be completed by 2013. It will aim to recreate the look and atmosphere of a 20th century port city and amusement pier, and will feature a large number of retail outlets and restaurants.
