The Battlestar Galactica and Madagascar: A Crate Adventure attractions at Universal Studios Singapore could both fail to reopen during 2010, according to a new report.

The Sentosa Theme Parks Blog claims that extensive testing on both attractions is likely to keep them out of action until early 2011 at the earliest. Battlestar Galactica has been closed since March following technical problems, while Madagascar: A Crate Adventure has yet to open to the public at all.

Universal Studios Singapore had previously stated that it hopes to have both rides in operation by the end of 2010, having been without two its headline attractions for most of its opening season. Despite this, the park has still drawn over 1 million visitors during the first six months after opening.

Located in the Sci-Fi City area of the park, Battlestar Galactica is the headline thrill ride of Universal Studios Singapore, which opened to the public on March 18. Both coasters feature a launched start, and at a height of 140ft are the tallest dueling rollercoasters in the world. However, a serious incident during a routine test led to the attraction's closure just a week after it first opened, when a seat flew off one of the coasters' trains. Manufacturer Vekoma has since replaced all of the trains, but the park must still obtain safety clearance from Singapore authorities before Battlestar Galactica can reopen.

Themed boat ride Magagascar: A Crate Adventure was originally due to open with the rest of Universal Studios Singapore in March, but has also been plagued by technical problems. Previous reports have suggested that these could lead to the complete removal of some sections of the ride prior to its eventual opening.

In more positive news for the park, a planned attraction based on the Transformers movies is still on track to open at Universal Studios Singapore in 2011. A version of the ride will also open at Universal Studios Hollywood next year.

Both Battlestar Galactica and Madagascar: A Crate Adventure feature in Theme Park Tourist's list of the 10 most exciting new theme park attractions opening in 2010.
