Universal Orlando has released a new teaser video for Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, showing off the attraction's queue area ahead of its grand opening on June 18.
In common with previous videos, the latest footage reveals little about the actual ride system of Forbidden Journey - the headline attraction at Islands of Adventure's Wizarding World of Harry Potter. However, it does show for the first time the "talking portraits" which will entertain guests in the queue, along with Professor Dumbledore's office and the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom.
The video features Mark Woodbury, president of Universal Creative, discussing the ride's plot and walking through the queue areas. Waiting guests will pass through the interior of Universal's recreation of Hogwarts Castle, which forms the centrepiece of the Wizarding World.
As revealed in a previous video, the plot of Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey will be based around the premise that Hogwarts has been opened to "muggle" visitors for the first time - with guests playing the role of muggles.
One of the first stops inside the castle is the portrait gallery, which will feature Hogwarts' founders - Godric Gryffindor, Salazar Slytherin, Helga Hufflepuff and Rowena Ravenclaw. Guests are then welcomed to the castle by a virtual representation of the school's headmaster, Professor Dumbledore, in his office.
After leaving Dumbledore, waiting riders head to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, where they meet Harry Potter himself, along with friends Hermione and Ron. The characters appear from beneath an invisibility cloak, and persuade riders to miss a planned lecture and follow them to a Quidditch match instead - leading onto the ride itself.
After a safety lecture in the Gryffindor common room, riders will head to the Room of Requirement where they will board an "enchanted bench". Although previous rumors had suggested that the ride would simulate a broomstick flight, instead the benches (featuring over-the-shoulder restraints) will carry riders on an adventure taking in encounters with Demontors and the Whomping Willow and a trip into the Forbidden Forest.
Universal says the ride will involve a combination of "live-action, advanced robotic technology and innovative filmmaking". This is believed to include the use of robotic arm technology similar to that seen in Epcot's Sum of All Thrills attraction. In addition, riders will be "enveloped" in video scenes that will "move with" them in a way not scene on any previous attraction.
Though the ride itself is likely to last just minutes, Universal claims that the entire experience (including the queue) will last about an hour. In total, 12 scenes will be included in the attraction and characters featured from the movies include Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Albus Dumbledore, Rubeus Hagrid and Draco Malfoy.
