SeaWorld Orlando is to hold a "soft opening" for its highly-anticipated flying coaster Manta from May 5-10.
The ride will be open from noon on May 5, and will open every day at the same time until "at least" May 10, according to a SeaWorld spokesman. The official opening date for the ride remains unchanged, on May 22.
Soft openings are common for new theme park attractions, both to test the ride itself and to ensure that the associated staff and processes are ready for the full opening date.
Manta will see guests lying face down in a horizontal position, riding underneath cars shaped like giant manta rays. As well as reaching speeds of 60mph, and including four inversions, Manta distinguishes itself from other flying coasters (such as Air at Alton Towers) through its use of water - with riders almost skimming the surface at times.
Manta is the third major ride at Seaworld Orlando following Kraken and Journey to Atlantis. More details are available at the coaster's official website.
