A new report from Orlando Sentinel reveals that the flying coaster Manta will open at Seaworld Orlando on May 22.
Previous reports on DoingFlorida (covered on TPT here) had suggested an opening date around May 25, based on hoardings at the park advertising an opening over Memorial Day Weekend. The new report indicates the ride will officially open the Friday before Memorial Day - although a "soft" launch prior to that date is a possibility.
The coaster will see guests lying face down in a horizontal position, riding underneath cars shaped like giant manta rays. As well as reaching speeds of 60mph, and including four inversions, the ride distinguishes itself from other flying coasters (such as Air at Alton Towers) through its use of water - with riders almost skimming the surface at times.
Manta is the third major ride at Seaworld Orlando following Kraken and Journey to Atlantis, and is likely to be mobbed by crowds throughout its first season. TPT suggests arriving early to avoid a long wait.
