Based on the 2001 Pixar movie, Monsters, Inc. Ride & Go Seek! cost $88 million to install in Tokyo Disneyland's Tomorrowland. The interactive attraction uses the same ride system as Toy Story Mania at Disney's U.S. parks, with guests riding in 4-person cars equipped with "flashlights" that allow them to search for animatronic monsters in the dark.

During a month-long refurbishment in 2010, Disney added extra appearances from Boo, the human girl from the movie who helps the monsters discover the power-generating features of human laughter. Boo's laughter triggers "sparking" light effects during the ride, while monsters' helmets now light up when riders catch them with their flashlights. Extra monsters were also be added throughout the ride.
