Silver Dollar City is a heavily-themed park near Branson, Missouri, which aims to recreate an 1880s-era mining town. The natural Marvel Cave continues to be one of its biggest draws, but the park is also home to a variety of major modern theme park rides. This includes the Outlaw Run wooden coaster, Powder Keg launched coaster, the multi-inversion Wildfire coaster and the enormous S&S Worldwide creation The GIANT Swing. Some areas of the park are more akin to a living history museum than a theme park, with staff playing their part in recreating the atmosphere of the town. White Water park covers 13 acres and has a lazy river, a 500,000 gallon wave pool and some steep water slides.
Park History
Marvel Cave was already a major tourist attraction when it was acquired by Hugo Herschend in 1950. Herschend's family established the theme park in 1960, with Herschend Family Entertainment going on to acquire Dollywood in Tennessee and Wild Adventures in Georgia. The park began as a simple selection of shops and walkthrough exhibits that formed part of a "frontier town". It has gradually expanded since those early days, with the first decade of the 21st century seeing the addition of two major coasters - Wildfire and Powder Keg. In 2018 the park opened the Time Traveller, a $26 million spinning coaster claimed to be the fastest, steepest and tallest of its kind.
