One of three theme parks in the Greater London area owned and operated by Merlin Entertainments Group, LEGOLAND Windsor is aimed primarily at families with children aged 2-12. The park features a variety of attractions inspired by LEGO toys, as well as a large number of retail outlets selling LEGO merchandise. LEGOLAND Windsor is the second most popular theme park in the UK, after sister park Alton Towers.
Park History
LEGOLAND Windsor first opened to the public relatively recently, in 1996. It occupies the site of the former Windsor Safari Park, and was the second of the LEGOLAND chain’s theme parks to open. It proved to be an instant success, pulling in some 1.4 million visitors during its first season. In 2005, parent company LEGO opted to sell the LEGOLAND chain to Merlin Entertainments Group. The park opened the adjacent LEGOLAND Windsor Hotel in March 2012, enabling guests to stay in rooms that overlook the Adventure Land area.
