Disney California Adventure is located in Anaheim, California, and is part of the Disneyland Resort. Designed to celebrate the culture and history of California, the park features seven main themed areas - Buena Vista Street, A Bug's Land, Cars Land, Grizzly Peak, Hollywood Land, Pacific Wharf and Paradise Pier.
Park History
Disney had long planned to build a second theme park in California, with a west coast version of Epcot (dubbed WestCOT) announced as far back as 1991. In the end, that project was cancelled and Disney California Adventure was built instead, with construction beginning in 1998 on the site of the former Disneyland car park. When it opened in 2001, the park was heavily criticized both for its theme and for its lack of major attractions. Since then, Disney has installed the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Toy Story Midway Mania to the park, and recently completed a major construction program that added new attractions, a new land (Cars Land) and a spectacular evening show, World of Color. In 2018 Disney closed "A Bugs Land" to make way for the new Marvel superhero experience - Avengers Campus.
