Circuit ride

Opening Date:
Mar 27, 2013

Chessington World of Adventures' new ride for 2013 will is a vehicle-based experience dubbed Zufari: Ride into Africa!.

The ride is located in the Wanyama Village & Reserve area of the park, close to the Holiday Inn Chessington hotel. It sees guests boarding "safari truck" vehicles, before travelling around a circuit that takes in rhinos, giraffes and flamingos.

New enclosures have been constructed to house the animals, with water being used in favour of fences wherever possible to separate the species. In addition to viewing the animals, guests pass through a number of "splash zones" before encountering a "water experience" in the cave-based finale.

What a let down

This ride seemed to promise so much. I was very much aware of the similarities between Kilimanjaro Safaris and the ill-fated Rhino-Rally but I was optimistic Merlin would have done a good job. WRONG! From the rather cumbersome queue line, and the god awful CGI graphics and voiceover in the hut to the, well… "cave" bit chucked in at the end (which didn't work, I assume there is supposed to be a water element) it was a complete and utter disappointment. I was with a party off four and we all got off Zufari with much the same feelings of wow! Did we really just wait for that?!

I should admit I am a regular to US theme parks, but have a realistic view of what UK theme parks can achieve and unfortunately Merlin really missed the mark with this one and I shan't be queuing for it again.

It's worth going on to make your own judgements but if the que-line is bigger than 10 minutes don't bother.

Not worth the wait

This is a lame immitation of Disney's Animal Kingdom Kilimanjaro Safari ride so if you have been on that then you will probably be disappointed. I agree with the other review which states that the cave experience needs some work.

Good but needs work

Zufari is a interesting ride for what it is. The ride is nice and the queue line is nice as well. Everything about the ride before the cave is good and makes for an interesting experience. However, the cave is a let down and needs some work. It would make it a much better experience as a whole. But it is a let down for a finale. Regardless of that, the rest of the ride is good and is something different from the rest of the park.
