The Ugly

Genie+, Disney

The worst aspect of Genie+ is the 7:00 am selection time. Even if you plan to have a late start at the parks, you will still have to wake up before 7:00 to select your first Lightning Lane return time.

Additionally, if you are arriving at the park later in the morning or even in the afternoon, you will have to watch the times until an appropriate time for your schedule come available. For some rides, this can occur in seconds, and others, hours and there isn’t always a sure way of knowing which that will be, causing guests to need to be glued to their phones to secure the desired time.

Also, most will agree that the price tag accompanying the Genie+ system can really add up. During our trip, we had 5 park days, which cost us about $450 for just Genie+. On top of that, we purchased Individual Lightning Lanes for Flight of Passage and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, each of those purchases cost us about $75. In total, we spent about $600 for a group of six. The price points are simply not attainable for all families, unfortunately, and wait times continue to be at an all-time high as crowds continue at the parks.

Ultimately, it is up to each group of guests to weigh the pros and cons of the Disney Genie+ service, and my experience will not be the same as every other guest’s experience. Hopefully, these experiences can help you to be better prepared to navigate the Genie+ service if you chose to purchase it on your next trip.
