Superman: Escape from Krypton

Superman Escape from Krypton, Six Flags

We are heading back to Six Flags Magic Mountain for our next unique coaster. Superman: Escape from Krypton originally opened in 1997 as Superman: The Escape. At that time, the coaster was the first to top 100 mph speeds. When it closed in 2010 for a retheme and refurbishment the launch was switched from a forwards launch to a backwards launch and the ride was given a new paint job.

Superman: Escape from Krypton opened in its current form in 2011 and closed only briefly in 2012 when Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom was added to the side of the track. That’s right, this coaster has an entire drop tower ride attached to its vertical track. The electromagnetic motors of the ride launch riders from the station up to a speed of 100 mph in about 7 seconds, backwards. Riders ascend one of two identical, 415 ft tall parallel tracks where they experience 6.5 seconds of weightlessness. But as with all things, what goes up, must come down and riders then plummet face first straight down reaching speeds of 92 mph.

Time Traveler

Our next coaster hails from another smaller park in Branson, MO called Silver Dollar City. Time Traveler is truly one of a kind. It is not only the steepest and tallest spinning coaster, but also the fastest. The 26-million-dollar coaster opened in March of 2018. It begins with a 95 ft, vertical drop right out from the station. There is no lift hill on this coaster. From there, riders spin through 3,020 feet of track through the Ozarks mountainous terrain. There are 3 inversions--most of any spinning coaster—including a 95 ft tall vertical loop. It also features 2 launches. If you think your stomach can handle it, this is definitely a wild coaster to add to the bucket list.

Which of these crazy unique coasters would YOU ride? Full disclosure, of these 5 wild rides, I personally would only ride Hagrid’s Magical Creature Motorbike Adventure and Cannibal.
