How Does Jersey Devil Fit at Six Flags Great Adventure?

New coasters cannot be viewed in a vacuum; it’s important to take into account how a coaster fits in its given park and region, and with that said, Jersey Devil is a lovely addition to this New Jersey park.

While walking through Six Flags this week, I overheard a park guest referring to Jersey Devil Coaster as “mini Nitro.” Even I thought, after Six Flags Great Adventure’s announcement of the coaster last year, that the park was more in need of a multi-launch coaster like Cedar Point's Maverick or the new VelociCoaster, but Jersey Devil fills a hole in the park’s lineup that I didn’t even know was there: a quick, crowd-pleasing, airtime- and inversion-filled coaster that’s as pleasant as it is blood-pumping. Though this new coaster may slightly resemble Nitro—and even El Toro—with its narrower layout and hills, Jersey Devil’s inversions and intense brand of airtime make for a wholly different experience from its brother coaster next door.

It’s also important to note that there is no other coaster like Jersey Devil in the region. The closest single-rail coaster is in San Antonio, Texas, and even the closest RMC coaster is down in Virginia at King’s Dominion, which is still a hefty drive. With Jersey Devil now at Six Flags, parkgoers in the Northeastern region of the US have something brand new to the area to catch a ride on this summer.

With this new addition, Six Flags Great Adventure is really threatening Magic Mountain for the title of best ride lineup in the chain. Six Flags Magic Mountain—the record holder for the most coasters at a park—will perhaps always sweep away Great Adventure if you’re looking at quantity, but between Kingda Ka, El Toro, a wealth of solid supporting coasters, and now Jersey Devil, Six Flags Great Adventure now has a quality of rides that’s hard to beat.

Jersey Devil Coaster will continue their soft opening this week, and guests can expect an official opening to the public on June 13. Do yourself a favor and do not miss this coaster of legend.
