LEGOLAND’s Rush to Judgment
The third weird thing over the past week came from LEGOLAND Florida Resort. And it’s trivial but funny. You see, the officials at LEGOLAND got a bit carried away.
There’s a multi-step process to reopening Florida theme parks. The major players must present a Coronavirus safety play to the local mayor. Once this individual signs off on the plan, it goes to the governor’s office.
Once the governor approves the plan, the park can reopen. It’s pretty cut and dried, only LEGOLAND is a rebel park that plays by its own rules.
Last Friday, LEGOLAND announced that it would return on June 1st, which was a surprise to Floridian government officials. They hadn’t signed off on the plan yet.
So, for a long weekend, LEGOLAND went rogue and basically said it was coming back with or without governmental approval. That’s pretty badass for a park based on a children’s toy, right?
The incident did lead to this fantastic headline from the Orlando Sentinel:
“Legoland can reopen June 1st after coronavirus closure, governor says. This time for real.”
Right now is a weird time to run a theme park. And mistakes are being made. Thankfully, at least we have Socially Distant Skunk Ape to save society.
