Waiting in Line

I know, it seems a little absurd, but go with me here. Our brains are wired to generally let the bad parts of things fade away over time, so our internal images of them only improve as we get further from them. Disney’s queues are a pretty good example of this – after all, how many times have you heard someone in the community sincerely tell someone else they should ride something standby “just because the queue is that good,” right?

And so, yes, sometimes you’ll find yourself daydreaming about waiting in a line for something. Maybe it’s a relatively pleasant line like Space Mountain or a more soul-crushing line like Soarin’ – but either way, you know your daydream won’t last 90 minutes without any real entertainment. So, it’s easy enough to dip into the memory without getting trapped there.

Waiting in line is a ubiquitous part of the Disney experience, and while it’s generally pretty annoying while you’re experiencing it, after the fact, you have all sorts of in-jokes with your party and new memories. That’s the stuff that’ll stick with you when you’re stuck at work late on a Friday.

Sitting on a Bench

There are so many good benches at Walt Disney World. There are great places to sit in every land of every park, at every resort, at Disney Springs, and everywhere in between. Some of the best benches aren’t even actual benches, but rather the edges of fountains or particularly convenient queue decorations.

Daydreaming about sitting on a park bench is so ubiquitous, it has even spawned its own cottage industry of park bench YouTube videos, giving you the sights and sounds of your favorite part of Walt Disney World for a short break. Hell, Disneyland itself was invented while Walt Disney was daydreaming on a park bench in Southern California.

I have no doubt in my mind that the most common daydream locale in Disney circles is a Disney park bench. In fact, some of you probably interrupted your park bench daydream just to read this article.

LOVED this article Dakota. These are the marks of a true Disney parks enthusiast, when you have the Space Mountain queue music in your playlist and just hearing it makes you yearn to be there, or makes fond memories come cascading back. Your article made my mind jump to cool mornings at Pop Century, walking behind Hourglass Lake and enjoying the sight of the tiny lizards that love to hang out everywhere (a novelty to us northerners). I will have to take the monorail on a joyride next time we go; since we've been staying at Pop we take buses everywhere and I had forgotten the pleasure of just riding the Resort Loop for the fun of it. The last thing I dream of is not having to cook for a few days! Making advance dining reservations and then dreaming about it for months-- even as a vegetarian there is so much to look forward to. Our discovery on our last trip was a sinful little item they sell at that bakery on the Boardwalk-- a cinnamon-sugar-coated muffin called the "doodlemuffin." Thanks for this fun list of Disney daydreams.
