Taste of Disney

A visit to Walt Disney World is about many things — riding rides, relaxing by the pool, exploring cool resorts. But, for some, it’s about one key feature: food.

There are so many great food items and restaurants on Disney property, from the high-end Victoria and Albert’s to the refurbished Beaches and Cream to the salty-but-iconic turkey legs. One docu-series that would be fascinating to watch would be one looking at the Disney restaurants and dishes — with a host traveling to each location, trying the dish, and talking with both the chef who created it and the cooks who prepare it.

Imagine a combination of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and every food article on this website.

There’s a lot to this concept that each episode could look at, from how those eye-catching chocolate pretzels are manufactured to how the sushi chefs at California Grill craft their magic rolls. Each episode would look at just a handful of dishes and restaurants, and the show could be done in seasons and include food from parks all around the world.

I’d watch it. Admit it, you would too.

Blue Sky to Opening Day

One of the most fascinating documentaries on Netflix is the hit series Seven Days Out, in which filmmakers follow a major event as it prepares to kick off. Everything from the Westminster Dog Show to a Chanel Fashion Show gets a deep look, with the people who work crazy hours with little thanks getting the lion’s share of the attention.

Disney could easily adapt this concept, to follow its major attractions and events as they prepare for launch. Imagine an episode focusing on the launch of Rise of the Resistance, from the blue sky development phase to the week before launch, to the preparations for the media event on the day. Or, alternatively, imagine an episode looking at the run up to D23, following the stage managers and event directors as they work to keep everyone on task and everything on schedule.

Disney+ is full of incredible content, but Disney will need to keep populating it with new features to keep subscribers in the fold. There’s no limit to the kinds of documentaries Disney fans would love to watch, and hopefully The Imagineering Story is just the first of many — rather than the high-water mark.

Dakota, you are such a great Disney article writer, I have been so impressed with all your stuff and this list is right up there! I would watch all of these and get my Disney vibe on. I hope Disney takes some cues from this list, as you said, to keep subscriber interest crackling!
