Rent a kayak, bike, or canoe.

Canoes at Fort Wilderness

You don’t have to be a professional runner to get in a good workout at the Disney Parks. In addition to the jogging/power-walking pathways around Walt Disney World Resort, guests and non-guests alike can get creative with their morning routine by renting bikes, canoes, or kayaks at various spots around the property.

Basic bicycles can be rented for $18/person at eight locations throughout the resort: Caribbean Beach Resort, Old Key West Resort, both Port Orleans Resorts, and Saratoga Springs Resort. Guests of the Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness Resort are currently out of luck due to ongoing construction around the area, though it’s always worth double-checking to verify that information regarding closures are up-to-date during your vacation.

In fact, those staying at Fort Wilderness may have better luck with kayak and canoe rentals, either of which can be obtained for $13 per person, per hour. Off-property guests are permitted to enjoy bikes, kayaks, and canoes as well, though all riders will have to abide by the hours, seating capacity (up to two riders per kayak; up to three per canoe), safety equipment requirements, and area restrictions set by each respective resort.

Of course, you don’t always have to work out alone…

Enjoy a round of tennis, volleyball, or basketball with a friend.

Exercising is often more fun with a friend, and there are plenty of one-on-one and group activities to get your group going while you’re at the Disney Parks. The Disneyland Resort hotels are fairly limited in their offerings—aside from sunrise walks and stretching in Disney California Adventure, both the Grand Californian and Disneyland Hotel have indoor gyms and outdoor pools—but there’s far more variety at Walt Disney World, where guests can play a game of tennis or volleyball, shoot hoops, go horseback riding through the Fort Wilderness Resort, or rent two- or four-person surrey bikes around the Boardwalk, Port Orleans, Old Key West, and Saratoga Springs Resort areas.

Don’t make the mistake of believing you need to be a pro player to enjoy sports at Walt Disney World, either. Five of the seven hotels that feature tennis courts also offer group and private lessons—Contemporary Resort, Animal Kingdom Lodge, BoardWalk Inn, Saratoga Springs Resort, and Yacht & Beach Club Resorts—if you’re in the mood to pick up a new skillset. It’s important to point out that, unlike Walt Disney World’s vast network of running trails, those looking to enjoy tennis, volleyball, and basketball must be registered guests at a resort hotel in order to access the courts. While neither volleyball nor basketball lessons are available, guests can enjoy beginner-friendly horseback rides over at Tri-Circle-D Ranch, where a 45-minute ride runs $55 per person (ages nine and up).

Looking for something a little more slow-paced? Sunrise yoga classes may be offered at several on-property resorts during your stay, including Saratoga Springs Resort, Wilderness Lodge, and the Contemporary Resort. If you’re not sure which activities are offered at your hotel, inquire with Guest Services to find out where and when you need to go on any given day of the week.
