3. Barnabas T. Bullion’s insatiable greed

Thunder Mountain Railroad

Despite its hazardous history, Thunder Mountain is still an alluring prospect for the overwhelmingly greedy. Enter Barnabas T. Bullion. The entitled president and founder of the Big Thunder Mining Company simply refuses to give up on the gold that’s believed to be hidden in the mountain’s depths. Similar perhaps to Peralta, who insisted on mining the Superstitions even after tragedy befell Coronado. Bullion believed his fortuitous name is only further proof of his destiny. Determined to uncover a legendary gold strike, Bullion is actively mining the mountain.

Thunder Mountain’s enhanced interactive queue lets you dive a bit further into this updated storyline, offering maps of the mines and opportunities for you to blow up a few simulated sticks of dynamite yourself.

4. The curse that won’t quit

Big Thunder Mountain

As you can plainly see when you board an ore train in Big Thunder Mountain, Bullion hasn’t had much success in evading the curse of the mountain. These trains still take off on wild, unmanned rides through the ghostly mines. You’ll see things like swinging lanterns and collapsed tunnels that are evidence of longstanding troubles that plague miners here.

Are you brave enough to try a spin on the runaway mine trains? The trains’ names give you a clue as to what type of attitude you’ll need to survive the journey. The trains are U.R. Bold, I.M. Brave, U.R. Courageous, I.M. Fearless, U.R. Daring, and I.B. Hearty.

The next time you’re riding Big Thunder, take note of the key story elements around you. You may just find that your favorite thrill ride has a new, chilling feel to it now that you have a better understanding of the mysterious troubles that have plagued all those to head into the cursed mines.
