4. Issues with casts or prosthetics

Warning signs have crucial information

Due to the turbulent nature of many rides, guests wearing casts are often turned away. There are also special restrictions for guests with prosthesis. You may be required to remove the prosthesis in order to ride. This is particularly true at Universal, though Disney offers a handout with prosthesis information for its parks.

5. Troubles transferring

Many rides require wheelchair transfers

If you’re using a wheelchair or ECV, many attractions require you to transfer. This can happen in many different ways. You may have to transfer from your ECV to a wheelchair for the queue, and again to the seat, or you may find that you can remain in the wheelchair throughout the ride, but your ECV cannot board. If you’re unable to transfer, always stop and ask about wheelchair or ECV accommodations before you get in the queue.

Some attractions, like Jungle Cruise, have special ride vehicles that can accommodate your wheelchair or ECV. Others, like Peter Pan’s Flight, have no such accommodations. For these, you much be able to transfer yourself or with the assistance of someone in your party. For safety reasons, Cast Members are not allowed to lift, carry, or otherwise assist guests with wheelchair transfers.

6. Considerations for expectant mothers

There are many rides expectant mothers can't ride

Theme parks are a tricky place for expectant mothers. Many rides have signage that warns you away if you’re expecting. However, Cast and Team Members typically cannot offer their own advice as to whether or not you should board the attraction. While height restrictions are extremely cut and dry, the issue of riding while pregnant is left up to the guest. A Cast Member may politely ask whether you’ve reviewed the ride’s warnings, but even this is tricky territory if a guest isn’t clearly expecting.

If you’re pregnant, it’s important that you review ride signage before you get in line. You don’t want to spot the warning on the last sign before you board. Plan ahead so you can make informed decisions.

Reviewing the ride requirements and limitations long before you arrive at the park is the best way to avoid disappointment. Cross off those attractions that fall outside your capabilities and move on to the next exciting experience.
