4. ImageWorks

ImageWorks is the often-skipped post-ride area of Journey Into Imagination at Epcot’s Imagination pavilion, and though some of the games here are a little outdated, this is a great area for young kids to explore. ImageWorks is definitely notable as one of the few “hands-on” experiences Epcot has left, but unfortunately this is exactly why this attraction should be avoided during flu season.

Even though there are always a few Cast Members hanging around ImageWorks, with so many children running through this area, it’s impossible to keep surfaces clean and germ free during flu season, and considering most kids aren’t exactly attentive to things like hygiene and hand-washing, ImageWorks is definitely a no-go zone during flu season.

5. The Haunted Mansion

The Haunted Mansion ride experience actually isn’t that bad during flu season. You sit either by yourself or with another member of your party inside a doom buggy that is pretty well isolated from other guests. Sure, that safety bar might be a little germy, but considering your ghost host is kind enough to lower it for you, guests don’t even have to touch it!

However, even though the ride is great, what poses a risk here is the pre-ride area, specifically the stretching room. Cast Members routinely pack this small room quite tightly and when you feel like you are breathing the same air as the person next to you and the person next to them, you’ve got a problem. Things don’t get much better once the door out of the stretching room reveals itself, as guests often elbow their way through the corridor that leads to the lone switchback before the ride.

Though this might be less of an issue on days when the park isn’t crowded, if it is during the holiday season or a three-day weekend, you can bet guests will be packed into this attraction's stretching room, and if even one person in the room is sick, you can bet you’ll get that familiar scratchy throat just a few weeks later.

Staying healthy during a Walt Disney World trip can be a challenge, and for some, experiencing their favorite attractions may be worth the risk of potentially catching the flu. However, if you are hoping to return home without any "free souvenirs" from your trip to Disney, it may be worth holding off on at least a few attractions until your next visit. Do you have any tips you use to stay healthy during a trip to Walt Disney World (especially during flu season)?
