4. Guest Relations Cast Members

Guest Relations

This entry might not seem obvious - you surely remember the friendly Guest Relations Host who helped you when your Magic Band wasn’t working or changed your dining reservation to a more convenient time.  However, you may not remember the Cast Member who was yelled at by a guest when there was a difficult situation they couldn’t solve.

Guest Relations Hosts do a variety of different things on a daily basis, including making reservations, upgrading tickets, booking tours and special events, and, of course, listening to guest complaints and trying their best to resolve the issues.  However, things happen and sometimes guests have a less-than-magical experience.  Whenever there is an issue, there is a Cast Member trying to resolve it, and it is usually a Guest Relations host.

5. Pyrotechnicians

The nightly fireworks display is one of the most iconic parts of a trip to Walt Disney World, but these evening spectaculars aren't the only shows that use pyrotechnics. Many other shows around the property also feature explosive effects, such as fire, sparks, and smoke (think of Dream Along with Mickey and Lights, Motors, Action!  Extreme Stunt Show).  All of these effects can be extremely dangerous to the performers and audience members if they are not prepared and loaded correctly, and that is why these highly trained and certified Cast Members are the ones who handle and prepare them.  The job of a pyrotechnics Cast Member is important because they have to make each show look excellent while also making sure that everyone involved remains safe.

6. Backstage support staff

Cast Members Only sign

For every Cast Member you see “on stage” there is one backstage, making sure that the Cast Members can do their jobs.  There is a whole team of Cast Members who only work backstage and only work exclusively for other Cast Members.  They do a variety of tasks - cleaning a repairing costumes and uniforms, cooking and serving food in the Cast cafeterias, holding training classes, making schedules, and driving buses that get Cast Members from one side of a park to the other.

For these Cast Members, the only time they may see the guest’s side of the park is when they themselves take a day off and walk around.  Most guests never see, or even know, about what they do.  Some don’t even work in the parks or resorts, as there are a dozen or so buildings scattered around the Walt Disney World property.  However, they perform some of the most vital tasks at Walt Disney World, and without them Walt Disney World would literally cease to exist.
