4. It’ll always be independent
What is the end goal for A Petrified Forest – to stay an indie? To become a year-round haunt? To be assimilated by one of the bigger players?
A Petrified Forest will always be an indie and seasonal haunt. It has come a long way, and it’s really important to us that we stay true to our roots and our community. We don’t feel the need be recognized by the bigger players.
5. It’ll always be looking to up its game
In keeping with this unified (themed) experience, what can guests look forward to for this upcoming season?
We have reconfigured parking, added more vendors, decreased the wait time in the queue, added a second trail, and have completely made an overhaul with our makeup department. With all these things combined, our guests can anticipate an all-around vamped-up experience.
Please elaborate on that, if you don’t mind.
The color wheel for the queue was actually introduced last year halfway through our season, but it was a great success, so we will continue with that system.
When a guest arrives and purchases their tickets, they will also receive a colored paper. This colored paper will work in correlation with a color wheel. Instead of having to step into the line immediately, you can mingle, get something to eat, and shop around. When your color is called, that’s when you step into line.
As far as our makeup department goes, we have gotten rid of the use of all masks (although we only used two last year). We will be using some custom-made prosthetics, but we have switched over to an airbrush system. Stephanie West is our new lead makeup artist, and she is really phenomenal and has a great new makeup team she is working with.
A Petrified Forest is open select nights October 3 to November 1, 7:30 pm to 11:30 pm. A single-trail ticket is $15.00, while both trails is $25.00. It is located on at 1360 E Altamonte Dr, Altamonte Springs, FL, 32701.
