4. You cannot buy alcohol in the Magic Kingdom

The Claim: The Magic Kingdom is the only park on Walt Disney World property where you can’t buy alcohol.

The Truth: This one is actually a bit trickier because it was true for many years until the Beauty and the Beast themed restaurant, Be Our Guest, opened in 2012. Be Our Guest offers a wide selection of sparkling, white, red, and dessert wines as well as select French and Belgian beers on its dinner menu. However, you still cannot purchase alcohol at counter service restaurants and street carts, as you can in other parks. If you really need that fix, make your dinner reservations early, as this overwhelmingly popular restaurant fills up fast.

5. Walt once had an apartment above the firehouse on Main Street

The Claim: There’s a hidden apartment above the firehouse on Main Street where Walt once stayed.

The Truth: This popular myth is a crossover from Disneyland where Walt Disney did in fact have an apartment on the second floor of the Main Street Firehouse. Disney World, however, has no such apartment. In fact, Walt’s death on December 15, 1966 preceded the opening day of the Magic Kingdom by nearly 5 years. Opening on October 1, 1971, the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando is something Walt never saw to completion.

There’s no lack of hidden features to appreciate around the Walt Disney World resort, but it’s worth doing a bit of fact checking when you hear something outrageous, to find out whether or not it’s actually true.

Thank you for that debunking especially about MK. I worked in adventureland/liberty square for almost ten years and those myths were starting to get to me.
