Disney Introduces “Backup” Boarding Passes for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

It’s no secret that Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance has been insanely popular at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, with guests lining up at the front of the park as early as 5:00 AM to be able to join the virtual queue for this attraction and prompting several schedule changes at the park, as well as the cancellation of early morning Extra Magic Hours.

However, as operations for this ride get more stable, Disney has introduced a new change in policy that just may make getting that much-coveted virtual queue spot a lot easier.

Introducing the backup boarding group

Starting this week, Disney has introduced a new policy that allows guests to join “backup” boarding groups at park opening. These boarding groups are past 120, and will only be called if all of the initial planned boarding groups have been called back and there is capacity for more riders.

Though the addition of these additional boarding groups is a good sign that this attraction is running more regularly and encountering less technical issues, joining a backup boarding group does not guarantee access to the attraction, and guests will not receive any next-day paper FastPasses or single-day passes if they cannot get on the attraction with the backup pass.

Like with regular boarding passes, guests will receive a push notification if their backup boarding group is called, and can continue to check the My Disney Experience app for status information throughout the day.
