I believe video calls were predicted by the Jetsons, long before Epcot, lol.
Sad that Disney has stopped creating futuristic attractions, though I can understand why.

Agreed. This article shows why i used to love Disney and now no longer do. Characters and fantasyland never interested me, not even as a child. It was the inspiration about the past, far off lands and the future that made me a disney fan, and when epcot opened in 82, it became my mecca. Now epcot is a shadow of its former self and disney is really meh to me. Iger killed the parks i used to obsess about. 300 trips to Disneyland, 6 weeks in WDW and 59 trips to Disneyland Paris, and yet i have not returned to the parks in 3 years, and am unlikely to. If they brought nonsynergistic innovation back, i would start handing over the money again. But with Norway in epcot turning into Frozenland, and Frozen invading the wonderful Tokyo Disney Sea, i am not holding my breath.

I was at EOCOT on opening day, several times that year, & almost every year thereafter. While the original Future World design was intriguing, it wasn't a hit with guests. Changes began very soon. Energy & Spaceship Earth were changed to make them less pedantic and a little more fun. Horizons later changed. The Land changed Food Rocks -eventually installing Soarin'. Test Track evolved from The World of Motion, & Mission to Mars replaced Horizons. Those "fun" rides did bring guests back to EPCOT.

Terrific article! I love everything about Epcot, especially the emphasis on communication and the positive hope for the future. I wish I was fortunate enough to visit Epcot in the late 80s or early 90's when the classic attractions were still in operation. I'd have loved to seen Horizons, Journey into Imagination, and other original Epcot Center headliners. Thank you for the read.

Excellent article! I loved the idea of EPCOT's thesis bringing the world together through open communication! It was great up until the last part of the final sentence. I hope in the future we will be able to change the world through open communication, but it is far from easy! Until people across the world accept each other's differences, change will never be easy! It will take a lot more than technology to bring about the acceptance of world-wide diversity! That is my hope for the future!
