I was #2 and my roommate was #1.

The steam train and the monorail were owned by Walt Disney when I worked for RETLAW. Male operators could switch back and forth from the Monorail to the Steam Train. However, females could only operate the Monorail. I remember having to be at least 5 ft. 6 inches tall; fit into a very slim operator uniform and was not allowed to wear any make-up. We drove outside the park to the hotel and picked up guests who were first entering the park in Anaheim. Pulling the Monorail out of the garage first thing in the morning and cruising over to the hotel was the best!

So many cool jobs at the parks. I still would love to be a monorail pilot. Of course Jungle Cruise Skipper is an awesomely cool job! Weird Al even wrote a song about it.

Where is "Tower of Terror Bellhop"?? I've worked in the parks for awhile and in my experience it seems to be the most sought after attractions job by cast members. Safari's is a close second.

It's the one job in the park where you can be a little off, and not super smiley. The best bellhops are very particular and great theme actors. It's one of the best and most original rides in the parks, and the bellhops definitely help make it so!

Why is Monorail Pilot not on the list????? I piloted a train in the Highway in the Sky for over a year an thought it was the coolest job ever!!

No one wants to be it, and no one will talk to them because they feel they are beneath them, they may not be the coolest jobs at Disney but without them, the parks would be filthy...CUSTODIAL!!! I am proud to be one of them!!!

What about a confectioner? If nothing else, it's definitely the sweetest job ;) And we don't have to deal with all the monotony of greeter, fastpass, load/unload. Just candy :)

i would say they missed out on servers...particularly Cinderella's Royal Table where they're making a grand a day...

I'm kind of sad my role as Fairy-Godmother-In-Training wasn't included, I got people always telling me I was so lucky to be in that role! Plus my hours were way better than most since the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique has different hours than the park. :)

I was privileged enough to have climb the Matterhorn at Disneyland back in the 90's.

As I was told by 39-year veteran steam-train mechanic, George Britton (who retired from the company in 2008), you never "drive" a steam train; you *operate* one.

I was both an engineer and a conductor from 2004-2007 on the Walt Disney World railroad (and a Cast Member from 2001-2010), and let me tell you, that position should have more prestige than anything other than maybe Imagineering (which, really, should be in a separate class, since they're not "front-line" Cast at the parks. *Coolest* job ever, still :) ).

Think about it.

There are only a *very select* few places where steam trains still operate, and even fewer still that run on a regular basis. But, nowhere else but the Disney parks do steam trains run seven days a week, 365 days a year. They hold a young child in awe. It takes *very-refined* skill to keep the fire lit and to control a 85-ton, fire-breathing machine.

*Anyone* can drive a truck (Safaris); I've been on some pretty *bad* safaris there (spieling).

*Anyone* can move a lever back and forth (Jungle Cruise boats); and, again, I've been on some pretty bad "cruises".

Mountain climbing? Ehhh...you can go to Colorado (or elsewhere) and do that kind of stuff.

Face characters? I've seen pretty *ugly* princesses...

But...*nowhere else* will you be able to see steam locomotives running with the precision and finesse that the Disney engineers have perfected over nearly 60 years.

I say the steam train engineers should be *at least* #2.

I was #3 at the MK! It was one of the, if not the, most amazing experiences of my life. I loved being able to make people laugh and enjoy their vacation on my ride. One lady even told me I completely made her vacation. Epic!

I totally agree about maintaining the character integrity of our entertainment castmembers but I would like to add that the coolest job ever was a temporary position that existed for two years in both Disneyland and WDW. The Dream Squad....nothing was better than surprising people every day with dream prizes and making magic!! I was lucky to be a part of the team at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

I suggest taking #2 off. yes, some are face characters but for the public we call our friends in entertainment "character performers" and we leave it at that. the characters are real. please be aware that you're posting this on the world wide web and you never know who's reading your articles. try and keep the magic alive, would you?

You missed the Great Movie Ride. It's very cool to bring the movies to life and be right in the middle of them. Especially in the Wizard of Oz scene at the end.
