I wish I still had the photos, but I can confirm with 100% certainty that the Spider at Alton Towers did indeed come from Trentham Gardens.

Looking forward to the book!

Sorry to clarify - I didn't work at the park, but I was a regular visitor to both Trentham & Alton in those days. The ride at Trentham was a Spider, rather than Octopus themed Polyp. It seems extremely unlikely that Broome got ride of a ride from Trentham and bought an identical ride for Alton, the only logical conclusion is that it was the same ride.

I'd love to know what happened to both the Spider & Octopus. There are numerous rides of this model on the Dutch fair circuit, and having ridden several in recent years over there, I'd love to think one of those came from Trentham/Alton.

Excellent stuff - thanks!

By the way, I'm loving all these little snippets from the book, I originally was trying to resist reading them as don't want to spoil the book, but my 'will power' I'm afraid was just not strong enough!!

Thanks! Don't worry - the book is 330+ pages long, so you're not spoiling too much by reading these preview articles. In fact, they are meant as more of a companion to the book, as they include images that there aren't room for in the print edition.

Wow, super interesting. What's become of the Estate nowadays? Or will I just have to wait for your anticipated book to find out?

It's a successful tourist attraction nowadays - and you can indeed find out a little more in the book!
