I have stayed at Disney resorts each year for almost 10 years in a row. At one time we could afford Beach club and Wilderness Lodge, now we can't - their rates have gotten too expensive. I do not agree at all with resort fees. The reason I stay at the resorts and pay more than staying off property is for the "perks" that are included, that they now want to charge for? It won't be worth the extra $$ if they charge fees for those items on top of their already higher rates.

I think the resort fees are bull. I stayed at the Polynesian last year, off season, and the wi-fi was slower than molasses. I don't mind smal nominal fees but if you are being nickel and dimed at every corner it takes the fun out of the trip and makes me want to saty away. You can go to Europe for a week in a 4 star hotel for the same price a 3 day weekend in Disney costs.

Complementary Extra Magic Hours and amenities like that ARE the reason guest choose to stay on property. If Disney begins charging for these items there would be no incentive to stay at the park. $20 for Extra Magic doesn't feel very magical.

Decreases are great and increases suck.

Really if they want to include a "resort fee" fine. Reduce the room rate. Let me get discounts for using old magic bands or not using wifi. Otherwise keep the fees and surcharges and other crap bundled in where we cant see them.

Would you pay 100 for a roo. With free wifi or 85 with a 15 wifi fee?

But we also have ro realize Disney needs to male money amd as a business they pass on all increases back to us. Just how it works. We just hope we are getting the best value for our money.

The resort fee, on top of the current extremely high resort rates will be the last straw for me. These extreme rate increases accompanied by reductions in services and cast members means that the takeover by the suits at Disney is complete. What a shame!

First off, I feel that resort fees and parking fees are just ways for hotels and resorts to swindle a little more money from you. If the place really needs those extra fees to stay in business then I for one wish that they would just raise the price a bit so that I don't feel like I am being nickle and dimed to death.
As for Disney, they have pretty much priced themselves out of my budget except for rare occasions and then only if they offer a free dining deal. Even considering the amenities that a Disney Resort offers, ME, park buses, free parking for parks and resort etc., when crunching the numbers our vacations we have discovered that with a bit of shopping we can stay somewhere even nicer for less money, and in most cases with no resort fee. For instance, last September 5 of us stayed 8 nights in a very nice 5 bedroom house that we rented for $1100. If we had stayed on WDW property we would have needed 3 rooms (3 family groups), and the price would have been a little more than triple, just for the rooms! Yes, we had to pay for parking but for the house, the rental car( I got a great rate on the car) and parking we paid less than $1600 total. Yes, I love staying on property, but I would rather have value for my dollar.
So what all this leading up to, is that I feel Disney is already overcharging for their rooms and any sort of resort fee would just be based on greed and would pretty much tip the scale for me never staying on WDW property again.

Disney resorts have pretty much priced themselves out of our budget. Even before, we could only afford the values when they had the free dining deals. When crunching the numbers, even considering the amenities such has ME if we didnot rent a car, free parking at parks and resort if we did rent a car, the park buses etc etc, we have found that we could stay at a nicer hotel for the same or even less money. If they decide to add resort fees we won't stay on property again. Resort fees and parkings fees that hotels charge are just fees for something that your already paying for, its basically just st their way of swindling a little more money from you. If any hotel or resort really needs that money then I feel they should increase the price a bit rather than nickle and diming you to death. For Disney to do it with the prices they already charge for rooms, it's just greed.

I took this survey the other day. My impression was not just one small fee but many fees for whatever options the guests chose. Ex...$5 for a Magic Band; $20 for the Magical Express (It didn't say if this was one way or round trip.); $20 for being able to get fast passes 60 days ahead; and $20 for days the parks had extra magic hours. The survey did not say if the charges were per person or per room. If they are per person, that would be quite an expense for a family. These fees in the survey were on top of the price for the room, which would stay the same as it is now. If they do start charging these fees, it would be too expensive for me and probably many others to go to Disney World. Sad.....

So, you could likely get around the proposed resort fee/s (and sales & hotel tax) by renting DVC points. Those fees aren't assessed on that type of stay.

The straw that broke our back. This is our last year for Disney. Sadly a decade long tradition will end. Disney is just become to costly for little value to justify the cost. Rides are outdated. Rooms are nothing more than nicely painted motel quality and food is incredibly pricey. Now with staff cuts as well the once incredible service level we all thought exceptional has dropped to average. Sadly we will miss our traditions there but i think Disney just doesn't want us anymore.

I completely agree with you. That being said, I am a DVC member and I totally cannot see these cost being justified when the parks are constantly in major repair. How can Disney expect anyone to be able to afford a visit with all the restrictions and MAJOR repairs taking place. A family will never be able to afford to stay on the grounds. DVC membership is no bargain either as the dues go up a lot every year. Am I sorry I became a member? NO! I came in at a good price. Would I do it now? No! If I do my homework I could go for so much less.

I work in the hotel industry, and I have never understood resort fees. No one likes them, especially when (as the article points out) they aren't actually optional. Rather than implement a resort fee, they should raise the room rates by whatever the fee would be and continue to advertise the services this fee "covers" as free. They never have been - that money has always come out of the cost of the room - but this difference in perception makes all the difference.
