Disney parks are constantly changing their refurbishment schedules, making it difficult for guests to keep up with the operating times and latest news regarding their favorite attractions, resorts, shops, and restaurants. Here are a few big, upcoming changes that are either confirmed by their respective parks or at the least very strongly rumored for the very near future
This month’s refurbishment update includes two MORE refurbishments set to hit Disneyland in the new year, plus a trio of Walt Disney World refurbishments happening in the first few weeks of 2020.
1. Haunted Mansion (Disneyland Park)
Status: Confirmed
Dates: January 20 – Spring 2020
After announcing last month that big refurbishments were coming next year to Disneyland attractions Indiana Jones Adventure and Snow White’s Scary Adventures, it looks like another popular Disneyland ride will be closing for a lengthy refurbishment in 2020: The Haunted Mansion. The current Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay is currently open and will close as originally scheduled January 20, 2020, but instead of a short switch back to the original attraction, this fan favorite will instead begin an extended refurbishment that is scheduled to last until late March or early April.
This string of lengthy refurbishments at Disneyland in early 2020 is curious as Disneyland park will need all the capacity it can get when Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opens in January. However, maybe Disney is just hoping guests go over to Disney California Adventure instead…
2. Carthay Circle Restaurant (Disney California Adventure)
Status: Confirmed
Dates: January 6 – 31, 2020
And speaking of Disney California Adventure, one of this park’s most popular eateries, the Carthay Circle Restaurant will be unavailable beginning January 6th, 2020 due to a short refurbishment, and is expected to reopen on January 31st, 2020.
3. Test Track (Epcot)
Status: Confirmed
Dates: January 13 – February 26, 2020
We’ve only got about a month before the early 2020 closure and refurbishment of Test Track, which will be shuttered early in the new year from January 13th, 2020 to February 26, 2020. No major changes are expected during this closure, with Disney merely giving this attraction some maintenance to ensure that Test Track n is in tip-top condition while Spaceship Earth is closed later in 2020.
4. Kali River Rapids (Disney’s Animal Kingdom)
Status: Confirmed
Dates: January 6 to March 20, 2020
Every year Kali River Rapids goes down for an annual refurbishment, and it has been announced that this attraction will be closed for refurbishment once again early next year from January 6 to March 20, 2020. The attraction is currently expected to reopen to guests on March 21, 2020, just in time for Florida’s warm weather to return (and for Spring Break to begin!)
5. Splash Mountain (Magic Kingdom)
Status: Confirmed
Dates: January 6 – February 28, 2020
And speaking of regular refurbishments, like clockwork Splash Mountain goes down for refurbishment in January every year while the water is drained, the logs are spruced up and various other fixes are performed on this attraction. And it looks like 2020 will be no exception, as Splash Mountain will once again be closed for almost two months at the start of the year before spring temperatures bring warmer temperatures to the resort and the attraction reopens just in time for March.
