Disneyland Paris is the most visited tourist attraction in Europe, and offers a unique take on the traditional Disneyland formula. It shares the basic design of the original California park, featuring five themed lands - Main Street U.S.A., Frontierland, Adventureland, Fantasyland and Discoveryland. However, in keeping with its European setting it offers variations on several popular Disney attractions including the Haunted Mansion (known as Phantom Manor) and a "retrofuturistic" version of Space Mountain inspired by the stories of Jules Verne.

History: Disney's first European park opened as Euro Disneyland in April, 1992 and has been dogged by controversy and financial problems ever since. Initially, it suffered from poor attendance until a successful rebranding as Disneyland Paris and the opening of Space Mountain: De la Terre à la Lune in 1996. However, the independent company which operates the park (which is 40% owned by Disney) remains around $2 billion in debt. It has focused its limited budget for new attractions on sister park Walt Disney Studios, although rumors persist that Disneyland Park could receive a new or updated attraction in time for its 25th anniversary in 2012.
