Images: Alton Towers to overhaul Old MacDonald's Farmyard area for 2014 seasonBy , Monday, September 9, 2013 08:17
Alton Towers has applied for planning consent for a major overhaul of Old MacDonald's Farmyard for the 2014 season, although it will not add any new rides to the area.
Instead, the plans call for a retheme of Old MacDonald's Farmyard, along with changes to existing attractions. Rumours suggest that a well-known brand could be applied to the updated area, with the plans concealing the identity of any potential sponsor or partner in the name of "commercial confidentially".
The main changes detailed in the planning application are outlined below.
Berry Bish Bash
The existing building will be extended to add a changing area.
Old MacDonald's Singing Barn
The entrance section of the barn will be demolished, and the remainder rethemed.
New themed characters will be added along the route of the Riverbank Eye-Spy boat ride.
Old MacDonald's Tractor Ride
The slow-paced Old MacDonald's Tractor Ride will be updated with new themed characters.
The Big Top that once housed Alton Towers' ice skating shows will be demolished. It will be replaced by a "Village Green" area, including a "performance area" and a new toilet block. Several "festival tents" will be located in the area, along with a large marquee. New shows are likely to be hosted here.
There's Something in the Dung Heap
The quirky There's Something in the Dung Heap, added in 2007, will be removed. It will be replaced by low-level play equipment. The nearby Dove Cote will also be demolished,
