Madagascar Live! shows coming to SeaWorld San Diego and Busch Gardens Tampa in 2013Submitted by Nick Sim on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 10:30
SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment has struck a deal with Dreamworks to bring a new show, Madagascar Live! Operation: Vacation to SeaWorld San Diego and Busch Gardens Tampa in 2013.
The musical show will feature characters from the hugely popular Madagascar animated movies, including Alex, Gloria, King Julien, Mort and, of course, the mischievous penguins. A live band will perform alongside the costumed characters, who will also be on hand to meet-and-greet park guests throughout the day.
The show will open first at Busch Gardens Tampa, on May 18. Performances at sister park SeaWorld San Diego will begin on June 15. It is expected to be very similar to the existing Madagascar Live! show at Chessington World of Adventures in the UK.
Describing the new addition, Dreamworks Animation's Head of Worldwide Licensing and Consumer Products Kerry Phelan said: "Audiences around the world have embraced the characters of Madagascar, and SeaWorld and Busch Gardens parks are the ideal places for families to enjoy this immersive live entertainment experience. The entire creative team behind this uniquely original version of Madagascar Live! has done an impressive job of translating the beloved world from screen to stage, bringing it to life for young park guests and family audiences alike."
In July 2012, Dreamworks Animation struck a deal with Triple Five to bring an indoor theme park to the American Dreams Meadowland mall in New Jersey, boasting rides and shows based on popular franchises including Shrek, Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda. At the time, the developer hoped that the park could debut alongside the mall in 2014, but this timetable appears to be unlikely following six months of stagnation.
