Image: GateKeeper roller coaster takes shape at Cedar Point ahead of May 2013 debutSubmitted by Nick Sim on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 10:49
Cedar Point has released another image showing off progress on the construction of GateKeeper, the park's ambitious new roller coaster for the 2013 season.
GateKeeper, which is due to open on May 11, will be the longest Bolliger & Mabillard Wing Rider coaster to date, boasting a 4,164-foot circuit and hitting a top speed of 64 miles per hour. The image clearly shows the opening wing over drop, similar in style to that seen on The Swarm, which opened at the UK's Thorpe Park last year.
The new coaster will feature the longest drop of any B&M Wing Rider model, and will dominate the main entrance area of Cedar Point when it opens to the public. Cedar Point recently reassured fans that GateKeeper is on track to meet its opening date, with much of the track now in place.
GateKeeper's circuit will feature a total of 6 inversions, including the dive loop, an Immelmann loop, a giant corkscrew, two zero-g rolls and an inclined dive loop. The ride's track will be teal-colored, with white supports, and will come into close contact with buildings and portals in the park's entrance gates to provide a "near-miss" sensation.
