Theme park news round-up - 14th December 2012

Butterbeer has proven to be an unqualified success at Universal Orlando's Wizaring World of Harry Potter, with the resort now celebrating the sale of the 5 millionth cup of the tasty beverage. Meanwhile, the new Be Our Guest restaurant at Disney's Magic Kingdom is proving to be a very popular dining experience - but its excellent theming and atmosphere is causing havoc with reservation schedules.

Islands of Adventure

Universal Orlando is celebrating the sale of the 5 millionth Butterbeer at Islands of Adventure's Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which opened in 2010. The beverage, which features heavily in the Harry Potter books and movies, has proven to be one of the most popular elements of the Wizarding World, enabling guests to get a real life "taste" of life in the Potterverse.

Magic Kingdom

Jim Hill takes a look at the teething problems at the new Be Our Guest restaurant, which forms part of the expanded New Fantasyland at Disney's Magic Kingdom. Guests are reportedly taking much longer over their food than Disney had anticipated, causing reservation schedules to descend into chaos.

Disneyland Resort

The Disneyland Resort has released a new version of its Disneyland Explorer application for iPhones and iPads, enabling guests to explore Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. The free app features recreations of both theme parks, as well as the Downtown Disney area and the resort's two hotels. Available from the Apple App Store, it packs a number of interactive elements into a sizeable download.
