Alton Towers launches teaser website for 2013's SW7 roller coasterSubmitted by Nick Sim on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 11:09
Alton Towers has launched a teaser website for the new roller coaster, codenamed "Secret Weapon 7", that will open at the park in March 2013.
The teaser site, located at www.altontowers.com/2013/, reveals no new details about the coaster itself. However, it does feature a smiling, hypnotic face that has appeared in various locations around Alton Towers in recent weeks. It also offers fans the chance to sign up for e-mail updates, and suggests that they watch the Twitter hashtag "#getcorrected".
SW7 will feature at least 8 inversions and 2 lift hills, and will be located alongside the existing Oblivion roller coaster in the X-Sector area of the park. Alton Towers has previously claimed that the ride will feature a "world's first" element, although the new website describes the coaster as "world beating".
The new addition will be the most expensive attraction ever installed at Alton Towers, with the £20 million budget topping the £15 million spent on constructing Thirteen in 2010. In common with the rest of X-Sector, the ride will feature a futuristic theme, as seen in the park's concept art for SW7.
It is possible that the theme of the new roller coaster will also tie-in with The Sanctuary, a new horror maze that will form part of the Scarefest 2012 Halloween events. The backstory for them maze revolves around the mysterious "Ministry of Joy", which undertook experiments on humans during the early 20th century. It will be set in an "abandoned facility" which is claimed to have been uncovered during construction of SW7.
