Dreamworld has received a $1.1 million grant from the Australian government to install a new Aboriginal-themed wildlife attraction.

Industry news site Blooloop reports that parent company Ardent Leisure will match the government's contribution, providing a total budget of $2.2 million for the new addition. Designed to celebrate Aboriginal culture, the attraction will be an overhaul of the existing Australian Wildlife Experience area.

The park has reportedly been planning the project for more than two years, and has engaged the Yugambeh people to help with the design of the attraction.

The first phase of the Australian Aboriginal Wildlife Experience is expected to open in late 2013.
