Universal Studios Florida has held the grand opening for its new simulator-style ride, Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem.
Based on the $540-million grossing Universal Pictures movie, Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem is the first ride at any of Universal's theme parks to be based on a Universal-produced animated movie. It has replaced Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast, which closed in August 2011, and uses a modified version of its ride system.
Mousestep.com's JeffLangeDVD was on hand to capture the grand opening ceremony on video:
The latest addition to Universal Studios Florida had been open to the public for several weeks as part of a "soft opening" period, but has now begun normal operations. Several of the stars that voice characters in the Despicable Me movies and the new ride were on hand to celebrate the its opening day, including Miranda Cosgrove, Elsie Fisher and Dana Gaier. A sequel to the original film will debut in theaters on July 3, 2013.
