The Big Debate: What should Disney's first "Avengers" ride be?Submitted by Natalie Sim on Friday, May 11, 2012 08:07
In this week's poll, we ask what you type of ride you'd most like to see based on Marvel's Avengers.
This week has seen cinemas flooded with excited fans flocking to see Avengers Assemble, the record-breaking blockbuster produced by Disney-owned Marvel. Theme park fans' appetites have been whetted, too, by Disney CEO Bob Iger's statement that the company is seeking to incorporate attractions based on the movie's superhero characters into its theme parks.
Walt Disney World is out of bounds for the Avengers, due to the exclusive license held by Universal Orlando to use Marvel characters at its Islands of Adventure theme (which, of course, pre-dates Disney's Marvel takeover). That still leaves the Disneyland Resort, Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland, the Tokyo Disney Resort and the under-construction Shanghai Disneyland as potential destinations for an Avengers-inspired addition.
The question that many will be pondering (I certainly am) is this: what type of attraction would be the best fit with the Avengers universe? WIth so many potential choices, here are a few to consider:
- Flying roller coaster - an you imagine strapping into a flying coaster (similar to SeaWorld Orlando's Manta) and being blasted around a track as if you are the mighty Iron Man fighting to save mankind from a global disaster?
- Dark ride - the possibilities for a ground-breaking dark ride based around the Avengers heroes are almost limitless. Imagine, for example, Thor's world of Asgard being brought to life by Disney's Imagineers.
- 4-D movie - an obvious choice, and potentially easier to implement, would be a 4-D attraction. Still, those Avengers actors wouldn't come cheap.
- Water ride - while dark rides and coasters have moved on in leaps and bounds over the last few years, there's been relatively little innovation in the world of water rides. Could Disney use the Avengers license as a pre-text for a truly innovative aquatic experience?
So what should it be? Let us know what type of ride the first Avengers attraction should be by voting in our poll below.
