The Big Debate: What do you think of Alton Towers' SW7 roller coaster plans?
Submitted by Natalie Sim on Saturday, January 14, 2012 09:59It has been a very exciting couple of weeks for UK theme park fans, with Alton Towers having unveiled its plans for the new "SW7" roller coaster for 2013. While the detailed plans for Alton Towers' next coaster have confirmed a number of long-standing rumours, they have also raised many more questions.
This week's Big Debate therefore reflects on designs for the coaster and asks: Have you got your thumbs up or down for Alton Towers' SW7 coaster plans?
The SW7 roller coaster will burst into X-Sector in March 2013 in the area that used to house the Black Hole, which closed in 2005. It is rumoured to have a budget of £20 million, the most expensive ride at Alton Towers to date. The ride looks set to be heavily-themed with a focus on the futuristic, and will feature the same black-grey colour scheme as the area's other major coaster, Oblivion.
The plans appear to confirm that SW7 will be a Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter model and will include two lift hills and at least eight inversions. The most intriguing question on everybody's lips is: "What will the world's first element be?" Alton Towers has already claimed that the ride will boast a first-of-its-kind feature, with early speculation centering on a possible vertical launch section.
Be sure to check out the full plans for the SW7 roller coaster, which include a number of images.

SW7
Well I know this much: I cannot wait to ride this thing. It sounds bananas! Should be great. It's up there with "Under the Sea" as one of my most anticipated coming attractions.
