Tokyo Disneyland Resort has officially announced that its version of the highly successful Toy Story Midway Mania will open on July 9, 2012. Based off of the wildly popular Toy Story film franchise, the ride will place guests in the middle of a set of interactive, 3D “midway” style games in which players earn points and compete with fellow riders while encountering characters from the films.
Two copies of the ride currently exist in the United States: one at Disney California Adventure park in California (themed to a Victorian style midway game along the park’s Paradise Pier), and another at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida, (located in the park’s Pixar Place). Both are known for their high levels of ridership and popularity.

Tokyo’s version of the ride will be located in the park’s American Waterfront in a new area called the Toyville Trolley Park, which will bare resemblance to California Adventure’s Coney Island style amusement park setting. Guests will enter the ride through the open mouth of the 26-foot tall face of Woody, the lead character from the films.
Unlike its American counterparts, Tokyo’s Midway Mania will also feature Disney’s FASTPASS, a free virtual queuing system meant to alleviate long lines at the attraction, which has proved immensely popular in the United States. The new area and ride will be located next to the park’s Tower of Terror attraction.
